Jul. 16th, 2025 What’s Saving My Life – Summer Edition

To say these things are saving my life might be a bit dramatic, but… 🙂

Here’s what’s making a big difference in my summer days!

☀️ AM SUNSHINE ☀️

Y’all. It’s hot in the South. And humid. It’s ridiculous. BUT, when I get morning sunlight in my eyeballs, I have a better day! There’s all kinds of science behind it, but there’s nothing quite like personal experience to make you a believer. And I’m a believer.

☕️ SLOW WALKS ☕️

In order to get my morning sun, I’ve been taking my dog out and drinking a cup of coffee while I slowly meander around the street in front of my house. This goes against everything in me. I’m a multi-tasking/efficiency queen. The logical option for getting morning sun would be to get a power walk in at the same time. Right? But (have I mentioned how hot it is here?) even early the heat can be overwhelming and that ruins the vibe! But a slow stroll? That’s where it’s at!

🥵 MY TOASTER OVEN 🥵

I have a fancy pants toaster oven that is big enough to hold a 9×13 pan, and let me tell you, this bad boy is making life so much easier this summer. I’m using the fool out of that thing. I’ve even been meal planning around “what can I cook in there to avoid turning my oven on!”

👗 DRESSES (with THIGH SOCIETY SHORTS) and SHORTS 👗

You may be sensing a theme here, but a lot of what’s saving my life right now involves ways to keep myself cooler. And dresses are high on the list. I pair them with my favorite anti-chafing/cooling shorts and I’m good for the day!

And after years of not wearing shorts (I do NOT have the legs for them) this summer, I have decided that I DO NOT CARE. It’s hot, I’m hot, and even my favorite cropped pants are just too much right now. So I’m wearing shorts.

🔋 THREE-WAY CHARGING CABLES 🔋

I picked these up for our recent trip to Utah, and now we have them all over the house. It seems like every device we own needs a different cable, and these are making things so much easier!

🏁 MY 16-YEAR-OLD DRIVING 🏁

Y’all…GAME CHANGER. Seriously. He’s driving himself to practice, to workouts, to lessons, and to the store for me. I’m here for it!

I just spent a week at Gulf Shores with my two daughters and 6 grandkids. It was hot but the ocean and the pool helped us keep cool. I am also wearing dresses this summer. I found one at Kohl’s that has a built in bra so all you add is undies. Very cool and comfortable. I wore it to walk on the beach and now I’m wearing it to walk my neighborhood.

I lived in south Alabama for fifty plus years, so I know hot and humid! I now live in central Texas, and I still know hot and humid! Your comments make me smile. I’m looking forward to a week in Utah in August. I’m betting on it not being hot and humid.

  Ummm…Not sure where you’ll be in Utah, but unless you’re high in the mountains, I’m afraid it WILL be hot!! LOL! Maybe not humid though! 🙂 We were there in May and lucked out in the weather department with only a few warm days.
